If as Ted says LRB holds their bolts "to vary close tolerances" this would not be a problem. I have also never heard of anybody lapping a fining pin or the bore in the bolt. I am sorry but I really don't think that a USGI bolt is going to have a problem with the firing pin that sticks. That would leave that some USGI pins do stick in the LRB bolts. He says that "most" GI pins don't stick in LRB bolts. If Ted was saying that firing pins stick in GI bolts (Not how I read it) this is the first I have read about it. When you are assembling a gun you have to check every part to make sure it fits where it's supposed to fit and functions like it's supposed to function. Ted B even states in that thread that new GI FP's are known to stick in new GI bolts on occasion. LRB bolts may very well be in spec but on the tight side. IMHO a tight FP hole would more likely lead to a non functioning rifle than a dangerous one if the safety bridge is in spec. Visa/versa the FP is retracted by the safety bridge when the bolt is rotated out of battery if the safety bridge is in spec. If the FP is stuck in the bolt then the bolt should not go forward enough to rotate into battery if the safety bridge is in spec. The firing pin is held back by the safety bridge when the bolt comes forward. Ted perhaps does and I thought his interpretation seemed biased. While experience garners respect.I trust those like Hook whose experience makes these others look like Bozos in comparison. How hard is it really to diagnose issues in these rifles? Not hard really if you take the time to learn, ask questions without fear of being wrong, and utilizing some sense of mechanical know-how. Not enough people in this country take the time and then fogtripper jumps on his back, not thinking logically and blindly listening to the interpretation from others. I applaud Spankybear for being confident enough to think for himself. Don't be naive in blinding listening to one person or another. They are in the gunsmithing business to make money and his builds are not cheap. Ted could easily just be covering for them and who knows what great deals LRB gives him. Lapping the firing pin contacts.sounds ridiculous to me really. You don't hear of folks doing this on M1s. I have never heard it mentioned previously. So you can't state anything against LRB other than the fact that this issue has come up previously. Remember, we are not sure if the firing pin in question was a USGI part or not, nor did he test another firing pin for fit. The issue is with the bolt or the firing pin. I called and asked Hook and he said hogwash. I've built dozens of M14s and M1As and never heard of this issue before.
